It has been a wet and dreary start to the week, but boy are we thankful for cooler temperatures in the Low Country. I hope to keep it fun and simple while sharing five random things for you today!
Prayers for Texas
Ok, this is not so fun and simple. It is heartbreaking. My first random thing for you today is not random at all. I am sure you are all following the devastation in Texas and bordering states. If you are looking for a way to help, you can support a local who is helping in amazing ways. While I wish I could drop everything and go, it is not feasible for our family. This is why people like Jamie below are true heroes and such a blessing.
Jamie Hough, owner of Red Fish Mafia, set out yesterday for Texas with his boat, supplies, food, and a heart of gold. I randomly saw a post on Facebook and have been following his journey since. They are going to rescue people with their boats in the most remote areas. Head over to his Facebook page and watch his “live” stories for updates. He is making Charleston proud and please pray for safety as him and his friends do amazing things. You can donate via PayPal (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Venmo (@redfishmafia).
Now… on a lighter note.
Split Leaf Philodendron
When we moved into this home, I found three plants on their death bed. They were wilting, yellow, and dropping leaves. I took a photo and asked our garden center what to do or if they were even worth saving. The sweet lady told me to dig them up, put them in a pot on my shaded patio, and give them fertilizer. Wow! They popped back to life and became one of my favorite plants. They’re super low maintenance and I water them every two to three. You can also use them indoors.
Om She Aromatherapy
I recently picked up Om She Aromatherapy soap at Home Goods. Now every time I go to a Home Goods or TJ Maxx, I stock up if I can find them. You can also purchase them on Amazon. “Lemon Sage” is my absolute favorite for the kitchen.
Scott and I decided to clean up our diet. We already attempt to stay away from processed foods, but we still have things like bread, pasta, and cereals in our diet. Therefore, we’re going to give “primal” a shot. We are not quiet ready to go with the “Whole 30” or “Paleo” plans because we love red wine, dark chocolate, and cheese. We plan to EASE into this and see how it goes. So I started with butternut squash spirals in place of pasta, and it was delicious! I tossed our squash in the pan with coconut oil and black pepper, then topped with shredded chicken and goat cheese crumbles. Super easy and very yummy!
Pukka Herbal Tea
I picked up this “Three Ginger” tea and have been sipping on it this past week. It is very refreshing and you can find it locally at Harris Teeter. Head over to their “pukkapedia” and check out their herbal encyclopedia. I will be drinking more of their teas in the future, for sure!
I hope you’re having a great week and staying dry! My thoughts and prayers are with our friends in the South, stay strong and God Bless!
